UP!

UP Cupcakes for L's class at school!   =P

This is the second of three cakes he's getting.  Spoiled ROTTEN I know!!   But he's still awfully cute so I can't help myself   =)   The first was the pirate cake for his friend party at Pirate's Cove last Saturday.  This one is for the kids at school.  And last but not least, he's getting one more tonight for the family party.  I'm not making that one but I might post pictures later for fun.  We were the high bidders on an awesome cake someone in the branch made for a fundraiser auction and L is lucky enough to have the closest birthday.

Shiver Me Timbers!

L's 9th Birthday party at Pirate's Cove!
Saturday was a crazy busy day.  I baked this thing in the morning, was gone at a Young Women's activity till 3:30 and had it done (along with throwing together the goodie bags) before having to leave for the party at 4:00.  Whew!
The boys had a great time mini golfing, playing video games, eating cake, and opening presents!

Good Friends!

Odyssey of the Mind State Tournament

I chaperoned L and J's Odyssey of the Mind teams over the weekend as they competed in the State Odyssey of the Mind Tournament.  It was an accomplishment to be there since their teams had to place first or second at the regional tournament to qualify.  The goal at state was the same; meaning if they place first or second they then proceed to the World Tournament.  L's team had two big disadvantages going into the tournament: 1-They only had 4 team members out of the required 5 so they automatically lost points there. 2- They were the youngest possible ages for their division which was for grades 3-5.  These disadvantages worked against them and they didn't end up with enough points to win first or second place.  They were disappointed but their fun at the hotel swimming, eating pizza, practicing spontaneous problems, and climbing the rock wall more than made up for not winning.

J's team had several advantages going into the tournament: 1- they were a team made up experienced team members most having competed for 4 or more years 2-they are friends, smart, creative, and love performing.  These advantages worked in their favor and they ending up winning 2nd place in their division and moving on to the world tournament in May.

One of my favorite comments came from a judge who said on the score sheet:  "Best Skit Ever!  OMG!!"  It really was entertaining and I was proud of both of my kids.

Spring Break: Palmyra, NY and Niagara Falls

Saturday, March 27: We crammed all eight of us in the minivan and made the 11 hour drive to Palmyra in one day. We also all slept in one hotel room with a king and two twins. I'd be lying if I said the trip wasn't challenging at times. BUT, we did make some amazing memories and those are what I want to remember so here are the best parts:

Sunday, March 28: We attended the Palmyra Ward for Sacrament Meeting.

Then we went to the Sacred Grove.

After that we ate lunch in the basement of the Hill Cumorah Visitor's Center.
Climbed the Hill Cumorah and ran/rolled down.
Then we had the chance to tour the Joseph Smith Sr. Farm, the Joseph Smith Log House, and the Joseph Smith Frame House.

After that we drove to Fayette and toured the Peter Whitmer Sr. Farm where the church was organized.

Monday we drove to Niagara Falls. It was amazing! We loved seeing the falls but the river was almost as impressive. It was huge and very active. It was still early in the season so some parts were covered in snow and blocked off. Also the Maid of the Mist boat ride and Cave Tours were still closed for the season. But we walked around Goat Island looking at the falls, viewed them from the observation tower, crossed over three bridges to see see the Three Sisters Islands, saw a large screen movie about the history of the Falls, and went to the Niagara Aquarium. We had dinner at a roadside buffet. Kids loved it cause of the all you eat factor and the ice cream bar- that's about all the nice things I can say about that buffet so I'll leave it at that.

Tuesday, March 30.
Visited the Grandin Press. M decided it would be a fun time to test her screaming vocals. The press was interesting though. Unbelievable the type setting process and what was sacrificed to publish that book.
Drove to the Erie Canal and Martin Harris' farm. We spent the afternoon at the Seneca, Rochester Zoo. We were starving after and ate at Panara Bread-I don't think a single crumb was left on anyone's plate.
We visited the Sacred Grove one last time and then walked the beautiful temple grounds.

That night was American Idol and pizza in the hotel room.

Wednesday: Another 11 hour drive and we were home.
